Planning a Trip to Friday Harbor

Ben and I decided last week that we need a little vacation, a little bit of time for just the two of us to hang out and relax. My birthday is next week, so we figured it would be the perfect time. Our plan is to spend a long weekend in Friday Harbor--a little town in the San Juan Islands here in Washington. We’ve never been there before, but we’ve heard good things about it. Have any of you been there?? I know I have a lot of readers from the Northwest, so I’m hoping you guys can help me out since we’re planning it so quickly!

Planning a trip to Friday Harbor

We literally have nothing planned yet…no place, no activities, nothing. So I’m open to any and all suggestions!

Any where in this state is a great place to visit! If you end up with no plans...that's a great way to go. It's like a treasure hunt. You get to go and find out great places on your own. Also, it sounds like just being together is always good enough. Enjoy and Happy Birthday!

We rented mopeds and rode around the island years ago. That was super fun! The lavender farm is fun to visit and the alpaca farm. Rouche Harbor is cute and kind of quaint feeling. Have fun!

I recommend the whale museum in downtown Friday Harbor, lavender farm in the northwestern part of the island, and Whale Watch View Point (west side). Also, sometimes there's live music in the Friday Harbor downtown park, so be sure to check that out! :)

Oh, lucky!!! That is where we got married, and I loooooove it there! Check out the San Juan Vineyards (biased because that's where we got married :)). Also, if it's open, you have to try the http://www.backdoorkitchen.com/ AMAZING!!! The Happy Hour at the Friday Harbor house is really good too! http://www.fridayharborhouse.com/menus.php We always plan on going to the http://ducksoupinn.com/ but keep getting lured back to the Back Door Kitchen :) Have fun!!

If the weather's not bad and you want to hike/walk around a bit, I'd suggest the Westside Preserve on the opposite side of the island from Friday Harbor. And Lime Kiln Point is a whale watching site not too far from there as well.

Love Friday Harbor! My favorite thing was renting mopeds and riding them out around the island. And look out for Popeye the resident harbor seal :)
