My Summer Wishlist

Unfortunately, this weekend I got sick. I lost my voice completely on Saturday, which totally sucked since I wanted to catch up with my family and friends I haven't seen in awhile. So frustrating! Plus my throat hurt and I just generally felt exhausted and gross. But while I was feeling under the weather, the weather itself was amazing! I went to Lake Couer d'Alene on Saturday. My sister and I laid out on the beach and read, while my parents went for a walk and Ben went for a run. It was so warm and sunny and it really felt like summer! So despite the way I was feeling, I couldn't help but be happy about that. I know it's barely spring, but there's something about that hot sun that makes you start thinking of all the things you want to do in the summer...and all the things you want for summer. When I worked at Pottery Barn, I always thought it was so weird because we'd start putting out Christmas stuff in November, spring stuff in February, and summer stuff in April. It's like the store was always conditioning people to want the next season rather than enjoy the one we were in. But I think that's really the way people are. We're always looking forward to the next. So while I am very glad that it's spring and I'm enjoying the cherry blossoms and tulips and all that, I have to admit, I'm also very much wishing for summer! Here's my summer wishlist...what's on yours?

1. An "itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini!" I think the shape of this one is really cute. My stomach is not my favorite part of my body so I'm intrigued by retro style high waisted bottoms like these. Plus, this swimsuit is on sale at J.Crew, and I'm a sucker for a sale! 2. A pair of Sperry's, with a touch of neon. 3. Summer always makes me want new nail polish colors, like mint green. 4. I used to have a galvanized caddy similar to this one...I wish I would have kept it. It would be perfect for outdoor entertaining--silverware and napkins in one section, a bottle of lemonade or whatever in another, a stack of cups in the third, and a vase of some fresh flowers in the fourth. 5. There's definitely something about summer that makes you want to relax outside with a good book or magazine...time to sign up for some magazine subscriptions! 6. Floral paper straws are a pretty alternative to the striped paper straws that are everywhere now. 7. I used to think maxi skirts were really unflattering, but I think it's because I had really loose ones that hung off my hips and made my bottom half look about a mile wide. This striped jersey one looks both comfy and really cute! 8. These Swedish Hasbeen sandals are supposedly really comfortable and lightweight (and they look good with everything from shorts to skirts to pants!) I doubt I'll get a pair anytime soon though, because they are pretty expensive. They remind me a little of Danskos, which I used to wear in high school and thought were so awesome until Ben informed me that they were the ugliest shoes he's ever seen (ha!) These ones are cuter, right honey?

What things are you most looking forward to for summer--or are you one of those rare people who just take each day at a time and enjoy the season that you're in?
