DIY Graduation Goodies

I know this post might be too late for some people, but I’m hoping that it will be just in time for at least a few of you! I took the day off work yesterday and whipped up a bunch of DIY projects that I’ve been meaning to do for awhile. Life has been busy, busy, busy, so I haven’t had as much time for DIYs as I would like. Anyways, this post has been on my list for awhile and with graduation season drawing to a close, I figured I’d better do it quickly! Luckily, both of these ideas are really easy, so even if you’re throwing a graduation party this weekend, I promise you can pull these goodies off in plenty of time. I can’t take credit for originating either of these ideas, but I thought they were so cute that I had to give them a try and share with you all. The Reese’s peanut butter cup graduation caps were originally dreamed up by Bakerella (she made them into “cake” pops), and the Pirouette diplomas are something I stumbled across on Pinterest.

DIY graduation themed goodies - super easy to make!

Supplies for graduation cap cupcake toppers

For the graduation cap cupcake toppers, you will need Reese’s peanut butter cups, pull-apart Twizzlers, and Godiva squares. All these can be found at your average grocery store. If you can find individually wrapped squares, that would be even better! When I broke the squares apart from the bar, the edges ended up a little jagged…but I don’t think that’s really a big deal. DIY chocolate graduation caps -- made with Reese’s peanut butter cups and Godiva chocolate squares

So, what you do is break apart the Godiva squares (or unwrap them if you found individual squares). Melt one of the squares--if one of them had especially jagged edges when you broke them apart, pick that one to melt. Unwrap the peanut butter cups and turn them upside down. Use the melted chocolate to “glue” the Godiva squares on top of the peanut butter cups (right in the middle). Let it harden.

Meanwhile, pull apart the Twizzlers into individual strands. Using a knife, carefully cut the end of an individual Twizzler strand into three strips. Cut it off and use more melted chocolate to stick it in the very center of the Godiva square. This makes the tassel! Continue until all the caps have a tassel. Let harden, then place the completed graduation caps on top of your cupcakes.

So cute, right??

Supplies for Pirouette “diplomas"

The cookie diplomas are even easier. All you need are Pirouette cookies and more of those pull-apart Twizzlers.

Simply tie individual Twizzler strands around the Pirouettes, forming a bow in the center. Lay them on a plate, and voila--edible diplomas!

Have you seen (or tried) either of these ideas yet? I think they’d be perfect for graduation parties--or if you’re not hosting any parties this year, you could also give away individual cupcakes to the graduates you know!

What’s the secret to tying the licorice around the pirouette cookie? They keep breaking when I try to pull them right and tie.
