April Instagrams

Last month, I challenged myself to post at least one Instagram a day. And I realized, taking photos (even if they're just on your phone) is a lot like any other exercise...the more you do it, the more you enjoy it and want to do it! It's the same way for me with DIYs and blog posts. Sometimes I feel like my creative juices are all dried up, but once I start working on something, more and more ideas come to me. So if you're feeling burned out, try to exercise that creative muscle a little bit every day, whether it's sketching, writing, DIY projects, or just iPhone photos. It helps! And you'll get stronger. Ok, I realize that sounded like I was equating Instagram to art. I do know they're not on the same level...but I think the principle still applies. You get what I'm saying, right?

Pike Place market

With that said, here are a few of my Instagrams from April. If you already follow me on Instagram, sorry for the repetition!

April Instagrams

My family came to visit earlier this month, and it was so good to see them. My gorgeous sister is almost a senior in high school!

The London Plane

We also finally visited The London Plane this month. I'd seen it on Instagram quite a bit and had been wanting to check it out for awhile. We didn't have time to eat there, but we did wander around the shop. It's a beautiful place!

Candle display

Colorado

Midway through the month, we went to Colorado for Ben's sister's wedding. It was a bit chilly there and the ceremony was outdoors, so I loved their idea for blanket favors (plus, how cute is that sign?)

Dogwood flowers

When we came back home, the dogwood tree in front of our house was in full bloom! So pretty.

Rocksbox

I also got my latest Rocksbox set. I've been enjoying getting these--they're kind of like Netflix for jewelry. You get three pieces to wear for a month, then you send them back and get new ones! If you want to try it out, I have a code you can use to get your first month free: athomeinlovexoxo.

Paseo sandwiches

The weather in Seattle was AMAZING all month long, so Ben and I have been trying to go on more lunchtime walks during the workweek. This was from a picnic we had at a park near our offices. If you come to Seattle someday, you have to try a sandwich from Paseo...so, so good.

Cute white house

We've also been going for more walks around our neighborhood in the evening, and I decided to (creepily) take photos of my favorite houses. Our neighborhood really does have some super cute ones!

Mint green house

Cupcake Royale

Plus, I treated myself to lots of goodies this month--from cupcakes to flowers, to lattes and coconut gelato. A lot of my Instagrams are of little joys like that--they always feel worthy of documentation!

How was your month? Hope you had a good one too.

I should give this challenge a go for myself - I could use an extra boost in the Instagram department! I love the idea of giving out blankets for a chillier wedding outdoors. I've always envisioned myself getting hitched outside, but I also don't want to be sweating like crazy during the summer months ;) Maybe there is hope for my late fall wedding after all!

Yeah! It's definitely a doable challenge...and it's fun to look back on the month and have way more photos to remember things by. I did it with a friend to give myself some accountability--that always helps! And as for the blankets, it was such a cute idea and totally helped too. I think a fall wedding would be lovely!

That's a nice challenge. Seems fun and challenging but still doable. And I totally get what you're saying about 'getting the creative juices flowing' they are times where I have no idea what to do and times where I have to stop myself for starting to many projects at once!

Yep! The best kind of challenge--just enough to push you a little without making you feel overwhelmed. And that's exactly how I am too. When it rains, it pours :)

Instagrams are art ;)! I do think they keep you more aware of your environment, and do excersize some creative need. I loved all your photo's! You and your sister together was my favorite! :)

That's true! They do make me look around more, and find the beauty in small, ordinary things. Glad you think they count as art :) haha.

I love that you do this. No apologies for the repetition- I don't catch all of them so it's nice to see a recap and read more descriptions! It's like a happiness/gratitude exercise, and seeing all the grams together is pretty convincing on how great the month was. Might need to steal this idea. <3

Oh, good! I'm so glad you like these type of posts. I always think it's kind of nice to reflect on the month too (and realize just how great it really was!).

    Hi Aileen!

I recently stumbled upon your site and love what you've been blogging about! I really enjoy seeing DIY projects and I was going through my bloglovin feed and found this post of yours. You're great at taking photos. Could you share what kind of camera you use? I just started a blog myself and only have my iPhone which does take great photos! But sometimes the lighting is just not right and I know a better/professional camera would help.

    Have a great day!

    xx Melissa

Thanks, Melissa! I use an iPhone for most of my Instagrams, and for blog photos I use a Canon 60D. Hope that helps!
